My love for rock music began long before I ever spun a record. As a kid, I was all in on KISS — the fire, the makeup, the spectacle. I threw full-blown garage concerts, complete with fake blood, fire-breathing, and homegrown pyrotechnics. It was loud, chaotic, and absolutely glorious — and it lit a fuse that never went out.
As I got older, my passion shifted from mimicking KISS to sound. I started obsessing over home stereo gear — constantly tweaking setups, stacking speakers, and chasing that perfect, full-room sound. My motto back then was simple: “How many speakers can I add to this thing?”
When high school rolled around, that curiosity became something bigger. My buddy Tom Carton and I started DJ’ing youth dances at a church. There wasn’t much of a budget, but Tom made it happen. Tom would rent top-tier systems from Champion TV and Stereo — usually Technics or Fisher — and we’d pile on extra speakers until the walls shook.
One Halloween, we went all out: a homemade fog machine made from a garbage can, a heating element, a squirrel cage fan, and dryer vent tubing. Twelve colored floodlights ran off dimmers operated by two younger kids under the DJ table — every flash timed to the beat. It was a wild, smoky, complete with a costume contest where Tom provided popular record albums of the times - what an unforgettable fun time — and it was pure magic.
Life moved fast. Marriage, family, work — the music took a backseat for a while. But about ten years ago, the spark came roaring back. This time, I had the experience and the means to build it right.
What started as a hobby evolved into a full-blown passion project. I went from home stereo gear to professional Rockville Audio equipment — clean, balanced, powerful sound that can fill any room and shake any dance floor.
Today, I’m proud to bring that same passion to every event as DJ Hobanator. Whether it’s a wedding, reunion, or celebration, I’m here to deliver deep bass, crisp highs, and unforgettable memories.
The gear’s bigger, the lights are brighter, and the fire is still burning — just a little safer than it was back in the garage.
